About this deal

This is a standalone from the author of the excellent DI Kelly Porter series and although totally different is every bit as captivating as her previous books. I don't usually read thrillers but as with Helen, Rachel Lynch's reputation precedes her and I loved it. The amount of research undertaken must have been staggering because this novel moves through so many different scenarios and never feels wrong or factually weak. I don't know if there will be any future outings for Helen or Grant but I will definitely be looking out for them, just in case. The investigations come to a dangerous conclusion. Be prepared to be taken on a journey' 5* Reader review His hair had begun to be kissed by salt and pepper…” sounds too poetic (and not very original) between so many gory details.

The vast array of characters are all well formed and have all been cast in their roles perfectly. They are exceptionally realistic, which is also quite scary to think about. This is the eleventh in Rachel Lynch’s excellent series and a brilliant addition. A first-class read .’ ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Reader review This was an exciting police procedural that as always left me waiting for the next instalment.’ ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Reader reviewIt is Helen’s task to unravel the lies and return Kahlil’s son to the family home. The big concern is who to trust in a sea of lies and deceit and while trying to save the life of one she is potentially putting several others at risk. A dark and gritty fast paced thriller with a twisty turny, interwoven plot that had me excited to reach the climax' Gemma's Book Nook I enjoyed the build-up of the case, the plot twists as you wonder which suspect is the real culprit and the joy of the chase as the pieces are all put together and the puzzle comes to a close, this is what makes a great thriller. I can see this book being part of a series and would be happy to read the next episode in Helen Scott’s career. I'm not going into detail of Kelly's first cases on the Cumbrian force. Suffice it to say that her keen eye and thorough work ethic connects a five-year-old cold case with a current murder of a prominent businessman in a seedy hotel. To say more would ruin it for anyone who hasn't read it yet. The characterization is skillfully done, making the police, the criminals, and the victims all very real. The story shows how even a place as idyllic and beautiful as the Lake District can have a sordid, and brutal underbelly that is thankfully seldom witnessed by the average resident or tourist. Part of the action takes place in hotels and guest houses in the quaint village of Ambleside.

A quality series debut like this one ensures that I will be avidly waiting for the next installment in the DI Kelly Porter series. A must-read for those who enjoy well-written, grittily realistic crime novels. Highly recommended! I really enjoyed reading Dark Game and I think that Rachel Lynch is top of her league in the British Crime Thriller genre. The quality writing made this a gripping thriller which had a great plot. I love how the books are set in the Lake District, one of the most beautiful parts of the UK, and Ms. Lynch brings the area to life with her descriptions, making the whole book atmospheric. Since Kelly just moved to Lake District, she has been living with her mom, and things at home have not been easy. First, Kelly doesn’t get along with her sister Nikki who has always been their mom’s favorite. She can also sense that her mom is keeping something from her. While Kelly is not perfect, it is easy to love her. What is not to love about a protagonist who is dedicated to her work and is willing to go to extra lengths to ensure that justice is done? The whole story is just as intriguing, and it is exciting how the author sets the stage for the final showdown. This is an evocative look at the Lake District intermingled with a raw and at times horrific storyline. The characters come alive as the story progresses and the detail regarding the police investigation was enthralling. Brilliant.’ Reader review ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐* I’m yet to read a Kelly Porter book I wouldn’t recommend! Once again the setting, the case and the character development fit together in perfect harmony to create a wonderful story I absolutely flew through’ **{::} Reader review {::} **⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The investigations come to a dangerous conclusion. Be prepared to be taken on a journey’ Reader review ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Absolutely freaking brilliant!! This is book 4 in the DI Kelly Porter series and it has fast become one of my favourite series and it just gets better and better’ Reader review ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This really is fabulous international thriller full of tension and twists and it races along to an explosive conclusion I loved the book it was different and very compulsive and I found myself completely immersed in the story. Another excellent read and this series just gets better … very good characters, believable plots that keep you guessing and so well written.’ NetGalley review ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I would like to thank Netgalley and Canelo for an advance copy of The Rift, a stand-alone thriller set in France and North Africa.

When the seventh Earl of Lowesdale is found hanging from the rafters at Wasdale Hall, everyone assumes the aging aristocrat finally had enough of chasing the glory of his youth. But when the coroner finds signs of foul play, DI Kelly Porter is swept into a world where secrets and lies dominate. Not long after beginning her investigation, Kelly is called to the Thwaite Hotel where a local prominent figure has been found dead in bed. Whilst there were no suspicious circumstances, it would seem that he had been enjoying the company of a young lady before his death, and video evidence shows that she robbed him before leaving. Kahlil Dalmani and Fawaz bin Nabil grew up together in Algiers and were very close. Now, both very successful businessmen, they chose very different routes to get there and are estranged. When Fawaz is desperate for help from his former friend, Kahlil refuses to assist. Kahlil Dalmani a billionaire, is an oil magnate and has inherited an empire, AlGaz. His eldest son, 20-year-old Hakim is at university in Paris. Despite employing a bodyguard for his son, Hakim has disappeared from the airport in Paris. There is nothing quite so satisfying to me as reading a British police procedural crime thriller. When it has an engaging protagonist, a Lake District setting, and a compelling and well rendered plot, then it is for me, reading bliss. The story is frighteningly realistic; the crimes, as they take place are described brilliantly… the next one can’t come soon enough.' Nigel Adams Book Worm
